British Library and St Pancras

The British Library is the UK's National Library.  Anyone can visit but to use the Reading Rooms at St Pancras you will need to register for a Reader Pass

PLEASE NOTE : to register as a Reader you must provide two original identification documents (not photocopies or photographs):•One showing proof of your home address•One showing your signature

The British Library receives a copy of each book published in the UK, so will have books which may not be stocked by other libraries. You can search the British Library catalogue or search via COPAC.

Please note that the British Library is very different from an academic or public library:

  • The British Library does not hold multiple copies of core texts
  • Items may be held off-site and will need to be ordered 48 hours in advance of a visit
  • The collections are for reference only
